Full steam ahead for Kensington Park classic

With more than 35 years of high-end real estate experience, it takes something special to really impress Toop&Toop Sales Partner Tim Thredgold.

But Thredgold could barely be more effusive when describing the grand property he has just listed in Kensington Park.

“It’s certainly one of the prettiest bungalows I’ve come across,” Thredgold says.

“There’s beautiful use of marble and the timber floors are just stunning.

“You can sense that whoever built it had money.”

A glance at the history of the home at 16 Orange Grove certainly supports that theory.

The four-bedroom bungalow was built in 1925 by a director of the Adelaide Steamship Company and the magnificent Magnolia tree that overlooks the pool area was a housewarming gift from the South Australian premier.

The current owners are just the second family to reside at the property.

“It’s fair to say there’s a lot of local history attached to the home … and you can sense that as soon as you walk through the front entrance,” Thredgold says.

“It’s a special home.”

Situated on a 1077m2 allotment, the home features classic features like original glass doors and timber panelling, while also offering an updated kitchen, undercover alfresco area and solar-heated pool and spa.

The home is just a few minutes’ walk from the prestigious Pembroke school, with easy access to The Parade and Burnside Village.

Given the property's location and proportions, Thredgold is predicting strong interest from family buyers.

“The current owners did some work on the home when they acquired it in the 1990s but there’s certainly scope for further improvements,” he says.

“When you consider the proximity to Pembroke, I would think it’s likely to be bought by a family, perhaps with children entering their teens, who are looking to add to the property over time.

“We’ve been very happy with the initial response. We’ve had solid numbers through the inspections and there’s been good internet inquiry, too.”

The home is being offered for sale by Tim and Megan Thredgold, with a call for best offers by 5pm on Thursday, August 13.
