Sarah Shanahan shares home organisation secrets

Professional home organiser Sarah Shanahan says there’s nothing quite like assisting families to get their homes in order.

“It’s just amazing. It’s the best feeling,” Shanahan told FIVEaa’s Jade Robran and TOOP+TOOP Owner/Director of Residential Sales, Bronte Manuel, on a recent episode of Real Estate Radio.

“You can see the relief on their faces (once their home has been organised).”

Shanahan has spent more than 10 years decluttering, organising and transforming client spaces.

“It started when I was a young mum with four young kids and I realised I needed to get organised,” she said.

“I saw an organiser on Oprah and that’s when I had my ‘a-ha’ moment.

“I thought I could make a career out of it - and I went for it.”

She said there are a few golden rules that ensure a home is well organised.

“Everything needs to be grouped … and labelling is king,” she said.

“There needs to be a place for everything, and everything is in its place.”

It’s no surprise that pantries are the most popular zones where clients seek Shanahan’s expertise.

“The pantry is the engine room of the house,” she said.

“It needs to be organised and functional for everybody. It’s highly used every day.”
